A Bit About The Album THIRTY......

After signing with ABC Music earlier this year, Anthony took to the studio to record his anticipated new album ‘THIRTY’, which will be released on April 26, 2013. Teaming up with producer James Kempster, who worked on Anthony’s 2005 ARIA chart-topping self-titled release, ‘THIRTY’ includes ten covers along with two beautiful originals, ‘My All’ and ‘I’ll Be The One’, taking listeners on a journey through the past thirty years of beautifully written tracks that have most impacted and influenced him.

Anthony’s song choices include cover tracks from the 80’s (Cheap Tricks’ ‘The Flame’ and Heart’s ‘Alone’) through to the 90’s (‘When You Believe’, ‘Go The Distance’) and Naughties (‘Leave Right Now’, ‘Dance With My Father)’.  With original tunes, ‘My All’ and ‘I’ll Be The One’ in the mix, as well as Italian anthems ‘Nella Fantasia’ and ‘Di sole e d’azzurro’ along with a selection of classic favourites, this will be the most anticipated album from this supremely talented performer.

Anthony recently shot the video for ‘My All’ in Melbourne with local videographer Prad Senanayake, who has worked with the likes of Ricki Lee, 360, Something For Kate and more. The clip is a moving visual narrative that explores different types of relationships and features a cameo appearance from Anthony’s partner, Tim Campbell, about whom the song was written.

THIRTY is released April 26th - Be sure to get your copy online or in store.

NEW ALBUM FOR 2013

This is VERY exciting news for Anthony Callea fans..... stay tuned for more details to come very shortly!

Anthony to open for Mariah Carey

With an entourage of over 45 accompanying Mariah when she jets in to Australia for her first tour in the country in over 14 years, it is no surprise that husband Nick Cannon will accompany her down under. Not only will Nick be on location when Mariah performs on the Gold Coast, in Sydney and Melbourne, but he will kick off each show with a live DJ set. This will be the first time Nick has been a supporting act for wife Mariah on tour, a bonus for fans who’ve secured tickets. For what is being hailed as one of the biggest shows of the year, two local artists Anthony Callea and Andrew De Silva will also support Mariah Carey’s 2013 Australian Tour.

As fans in each city wait in anticipation for their idol to come on stage, Nick Cannon will hype up the crowd with a live DJ set of chart topping hits and current favourites. Ticketholders will have to wait and see if Nick will put his spin on a Mariah classic.

2012 Australia’s Got Talent winner Andrew De Silva will also open the Sydney and Melbourne shows while Aria Award winner Anthony Callea will also perform on the Gold Coast. With American Idol set to hit Australian screens early next year, you have to wonder if it is a coincidence both local support acts found fame on talent shows.

Those heading to the Gold Coast for a New Year’s Day extravaganza presented by Jupiters Hotel & Casino are in for the night of their lives with these opening performances from Nick Cannon and Anthony Callea. Having supported other top female artists on their Australian tours such as Diana Ross in 2006, Celine Dion in 2008 and Whitney Houston in 2010, Gold Coast Mariah fans will love the opening act from singer and entertainer Anthony Callea, who will be supported by his full band.

Tune in on Saturday, 17th Novemeber from 8.30pm on Studio, Channel 132 to watch for the first time Tina Arena's recent LIVE tour where Anthony was invited as a special guest.

Tina Arena invites Anthony as her Special Guest

Recently, Anthony toured with another one of this country's finest singers and performers, Ms Tina Arena. The orchestral shows were taken around the country to sold out audiences. Tina personally invited Anthony to be part of her Australian tour, and if you were one of the lucky ones that witnessed their 'duet' moments, you would have to agree, it was a very magical and moving live performance.
Anthony said  "To be able to share the stage and sing with this countries finest singer was a joy and absolute privilege. I would also like to thank those that were able to come along, especially those that came from great distances. Your support truly amazes me."

LAST TO GO - Single/EP OUT NOW

Set me free and lose control of the night ...

Last To Go – the title-track of Anthony Callea’s new EP – is the sound of an artist who’s embracing his creative freedom, excited by the endless possibilities. “I don’t care where the night is going,” he declares.

There are no restrictions or boundaries. “Because rules,” Anthony sings, “they are made to be broken.”

From the carefree celebration of Last To Go to the emotional depth of Tangled, the EP is a compelling collection of songs. Last Night is the ultimate party anthem, while the strikingly honest I Don’t Care What You Say (written with Paul Mac and Cindy Ryan) is the sound of defiance and independence. The EP also features the cheeky first single, Oh Oh Oh Oh.

“When you put a body of work together,” Anthony says, “you want to tell a story. And this EP shows many sides of me.”

Anthony is an artist who knows who he is, and what he wants to accomplish with his music. I found his self-awareness to be very refreshing. Working with him on Tangled was a great experience, and I'm excited for the world to hear this song! – Matt Morris, co-writer of Tangled

Anthony is not afraid to experiment. “I could make a change,” he sings in I Don’t Care What You Say, “start again.”

“It’s about trying new things,” Anthony explains. “You can be really creative in the studio – there’s no one there to judge. And if it doesn’t work, you can always press delete and just start again!”

Anthony also worked closely with the producers: Michael D’Arcy (Stan Walker, Bardot), Aussie hit-makers DNA, David Musumeci and Anthony Egizii (Brian McFadden, Reece Mastin, Timomatic), and DJ Poet (The Black Eyed Peas).

“I wanted to work with producers I’d never worked with before, to get a fresh spin on what I do,” Anthony says.

I really enjoyed working on "I Don't Care What You Say" with Anthony. It's new ground for him and a new direction for such a strong voice. The lyrics on this track separate him from the pack though. A beautifully honest, celebration. Paul Mac, acclaimed producer and Multi Aria Award winner, co-writer of I Don’t Care What You Say

The EP also includes live acoustic versions of Last To Go and Oh Oh Oh Oh, which sees the songs stripped back, showing why Anthony is regarded as one of Australia’s premier vocalists.

“When I performed Oh Oh Oh Oh acoustically I got so many people saying how much they loved it. When you break down a song like that and it still works, I know that I’m on the right track.”

Despite an imposing track record – including the fastest-selling Australian single of all time, a double platinum debut album, gold sophomore album and tours with Whitney Houston, Diana Ross and Celine Dion – Anthony is an artist who’s very much living for the now. “Got no bags,” he sings, “I’m only here one night.”

And when the party’s over, and it’s the morning after the night before, these songs will remain stuck in your head.

TRACK BY TRACK

LAST TO GO

I don’t care where the night is going

“I was writing a few ballads with the DNA boys, so I decided I wanted to write an up-tempo dance track. With this song I declared, ‘This is gonna be a big night, whatever happens, happens, and I’m gonna be the last to leave.’ I wanted to have fun, but keep it real and honest. And the DNA boys bring that out of me. They’re always saying, ‘But what would you do, what would you say?’ They are the best guys to work with.”

OH OH OH OH

Break all of the rules

“I went to Poet’s studio in LA, he is seriously loopy, and I say that in a good way. For him, it’s all about the music. I loved working with him – I could just feed off his energy.”A creative spark was ignited between Anthony and DJ Poet. “‘Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh’ popped out in the chorus,” Anthony says. “I said to Poet, ‘Can we really use that as a lyric and the title?’ And he said, ‘Why not?’” With Oh Oh Oh Oh, Anthony treats his vocals as just another instrument. “I wanted a track where every element complemented each other, where the vocals are interwoven with the music.”

TANGLED

It was more than a passing glance

“I was walking down Sunset Boulevard when I saw a billboard for the movie Tangled. I thought, ‘That’s a great word, how can I work it into a song?’ I was working with Kadis & Sean a production/song writing duo who brought a lot of flavour to the session and Matt Morris, a singer from Denver, who has worked with a lot of great artists, including Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson and Justin Timberlake. Matt's a great guy, and we really clicked. I didn’t want to write a typical love song, so I put myself into a scenario. I people-watch all the time – There are times I just sit in cafés by myself and watch people and try to work out their story. The premise of this song is about someone in a relationship, but then suddenly someone else walks into their world and they wonder why they have this sudden attraction to them. It’s awkward, but everyone has that moment. We’re all human, emotions get tangled.”

LAST NIGHT

Let’s party like we only have one night left on Earth

“I love Vegas, I’ve been there five times. I love going to the clubs; the music’s great and everyone’s there to have a great time. With this song, I wanted to capture what I feel when I go to Vegas. I wrote the track with Jaakko Salovaara, who is a very talented writer and producer from Finland. He was renting a house in the Hollywood Hills and he got me to record the vocals for the demo by the pool. I laughed and said, ‘Are you insane? I’ve never recorded outside, let alone by the pool.’ But working with Jaakko was so much fun. I came back the next day and we penned another track.”

I DON’T CARE WHAT YOU SAY

Now it’s time to break away

"When I walked into Paul Mac’s studio for a writing session, I thought, ‘I can’t do this, it’s Paul Mac!’ But as soon as he opened the door and smiled, I knew it was going to work. He’s one of the most nurturing people. He has a beautiful energy and just makes you feel so comfortable. He also surrounds himself with genuine people, such as Cindy Ryan. Cindy has a beautiful aura. She’s very calm and a bit hippie/trippy. I’m so not that, but I knew we could work together. When you’re comfortable with people, you can be a lot more honest with your lyrics, and that’s what I was able to do when I was writing this song with Paul and Cindy. It’s very special and close to me."
